The Glasses & Contact Lens-Free Solution for Better Vision

Laser eye surgery is a long-term method of improving your vision and reducing your reliance on glasses or contact lenses. But before you undergo the procedure, you will first need to have a consultation to ensure the surgery is right for you.

Our consultation and co-management process can provide you with a comfortable experience while achieving the best possible results for your vision. Please contact us today if you’re interested in what laser eye surgery can do for you!

What is Laser Eye Surgery

There are many types of laser eye surgery procedures designed to surgically improve your vision quality. The most common ones reshape the corneal stroma to match your prescription and provide you with clearer vision.

Consultations help our team determine if your eyes are healthy enough to have surgery. While most people can have laser eye surgery, certain factors like overly dry eyes, past eye diseases, injuries, or lifestyle choices can impact your eligibility.

If you qualify for eye surgery, it’s important to note that laser eye surgery does not guarantee 20/20 vision. Though most patients report improvement in their vision, some still need to use contact lenses or glasses to achieve their desired clarity.

Surgeries We Consult On

LASIK

LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) eye surgery is one of the most common procedures. An ophthalmologist makes a small incision in the eye’s epithelium during the procedure, creating a flap and revealing your corneal stroma.

Using an excimer laser, your ophthalmologist will then reshape the corneal stroma to improve your vision. Once this is completed, the flap is set back in its original position and left to heal.

PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) eye surgery is very similar to LASIK, but instead of creating a flap from the epithelium, the front lens of your eye is removed to reveal the corneal stroma. An excimer laser is used to reshape the corneal stroma to your required prescription, and the lens is left to heal over a few days to a few weeks.

Co-Managing Your Surgery

While we don’t perform the surgeries at our practice, we refer you to a trusted ophthalmologist and guide you through the process from the very beginning. We can provide you with a detailed account of everything to expect from the surgery and provide assistance during the healing process.

Before Your Surgery

Before you have laser eye surgery, there are a couple of things you need to keep in mind to ensure the best possible outcome:

  • Book a few days off work or school to allow your eyes to heal
  • Don’t wear contact lenses for a few days before the surgery
  • Don’t wear eye makeup to the surgery
  • Don’t wear alcohol-based perfumes, colognes, or fragrances (as alcohol can dry your eyes) to the surgery
  • Don’t wear clothing that could attract dust or dirt particles

Following the procedure, your ophthalmologist will provide you with the information you need to ensure your eyes heal properly. We will also request that you book a series of follow-up appointments with our team so we can address any issues you may experience.

For a couple of days following your surgery, you may need to:

  • Wear protective sunglasses
  • Avoid wearing contact lenses
  • Stay out of dry, dusty, or dirty environments
